Self-discovery prepares each of us
to align with our true nature (who we really are in a psychological and spiritual sense) and to lead our lives in a way that
reflects that true nature. Our efforts to lead others should be equally authentic, allowing us to lead with honesty,
integrity, passion, compassion and empathy.
What is self-mastery? In an overall sense, it
means the ability to know oneself deeply and employ that knowledge to live and work more authentically and creatively. Self-mastery
(some would say discipline) can take many different forms. It can be about overcoming negative attitudes and
emotions. It can also relate to how we treat our bodies and our ability to feel at home in them. Effective self-mastery
couples the "inner" and "outer" work and links what we think and feel with what we do.
Self-discovery makes us aware of our psychological,
spiritual, and behavioral conditioning (our habits if you will). Self-mastery focuses on overcoming unproductive or harmful
conditioning and replacing them with beneficial and productive habits. Longstanding habits become a part of us over
time and they take time to change. This is why "daily practice" is so important in self-mastery.
We are finding that an
increasing number of people want to "reinvent" themselves in a personal and career sense.
